No. 140
Hongkong.
Sir,
Government House,
Hongkong, 29th March, 1904.
458
In my Despatch No. 10 of the 9th January last I had the honour to inform you that both the decisions of the Land Court on the 'U' and 'K' Case (relating to the Kowloon City Foreshore) and the case dealing with Ho Lap Pun's claim to land in Kowloon Bay from Ngau Tau Kok to Lyemoon, had been wholly reversed on appeal to the Supreme Court.
2.
During last year the greater part of the time of the Land Court was spent in hearing claims to foreshore and seabed extending from the old boundary of the Colony at Sham Shui Po to Lai Chi Kok, a distance of 14 miles. The area claimed being of great prospective value the Crown Solicitor was instructed to represent the Crown before the Court and the services of Mr. Clementi, Assistant Registrar-General, who had made a special study of Chinese law relating to land in connection with the two other cases mentioned above were lent to Mr. Bowley to assist him in the case. These claims which were supported by no less than seven Solicitors have now been decided by the Land Court in favour of the Government, claims of the applicants being totally disallowed.
3.
I attach a copy of a letter from the Crown Solicitor, dated 28th March 1904.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
ALFRED LYTTELTON, M.P.
